Director of Engineering

Key accountabilities

• Directs the overall operation of the engineering department to ensure the efficient supply of electricity, water, steam and conditioned air to the entire hotel, through proper operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities.

• Proactively manages the perfect room program, preventive maintenance program for public areas, and the quick fix programs in formulating ways and means to accomplish proper and more acceptable maintenance and upkeep of guestrooms and public areas, in order to delight guests and satisfy employees. 

• Develops, plans, executes annual capital expenditure budgets in order to maintain acceptable hotel condition and achieve incremental revenue increases.

• Establishes a workable solution in realizing an efficient, economical and sustainable generation and utilization of energy and other utility resources. 

• Implements the rules and regulations of the hotel and ensures that the hotel’s and company’s policies and procedures are being followed at all times. 

• Hires, develops, motivates, supervises, and coaches departmental employees by maintaining a culture of compliance and upholds the HSH values and core principles.

• Coordinates with government agencies to ensure the hotel implements national and municipal laws and ordinances pertaining to environmental care and safety. 

• Ensures all staff actively participate in the preservation of the environment and reuse, recycle or reduce whenever possible. 

General requirements

• Must have suitable experience in building maintenance and/or construction particularly in a five star hotel environment. 

• Must have good technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical and civil works. 

• At least 4 years in a similar role within hotels.

• University degree holder in either Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services discipline.  

• Ability to influence and communicate effectively with the team.

• Have an ability to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Be guest and result oriented, highly organized, analytical and procedural.

• Fluent in English language proficiency.
