Director, Communications

The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, The Repulse Bay and many high-profile assets globally) is currently seeking a high calibre professional to join as a Director, Communications for The Peninsula Hotels. The position will play a significant leadership role in driving our brand communications and narratives across the globe, delivering high-impact outcomes with key audiences while uplifting our brand equity.

 

The successful individual will be based in Hong Kong and report to Senior Vice President, Brand Marketing & Communications. 

 


Key Accountabilities

  • Accelerate and champion the Group’s external communications globally, ensure effective local and international deployment through expert knowledge and understanding of international media relations, brand partnerships and go-to-market strategies.
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with key media through innovative media engagement programs that amplify the Group’s brand visibility and international reputation.
  • Be the designated representative of the company in high-profile events, convening media visits and press moments while managing media attendance and engagement and entertaining media inquiries.
  • Proactively explore and identify media opportunities for the Group across global target markets, market the relevant content and campaigns to strategic media partners with a view to maximise brand presence and publicity.
  • Advance individual hotels on greater PR output through encouraging creativity, innovation and future thinking. Offer the appropriate coaching if necessary. 
  • Maintain a world-class and high-performing team and matrixed agency network through clear goal and priority setting and transparent communication. 
  • Monitor media coverage and PR performance metrics. Embrace analytics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop full range of compelling assets including media kits, press releases, articles, media statements, selected executive communications, media Q&As and briefing documents to maintain proper external communication protocols and templates.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Executive Leaderships, Corporate Affairs and Regional Communications Leaders on crisis mitigation and communication strategies.
  • Keep up with the ever-changing media landscape to better tailor the Group’s go-to-market communication strategies, bring creative ideas that integrate traditional, digital and social media and form new media partnerships both internationally and locally.

 


General requirements

  • University degree holder.
  • Proven records of 10+ years in international/ regional branding, advertising or 360 communications consulting gained from reputable PR agencies or international consumer brands.
  • Excellent international media relations skills with an established network of contacts across Print, Broadcast and Digital.
  • Strategic with a commercial mindset. 
  • Exceptional presentation skills that translate ideas and concepts into high-impact, effective, and engaging communications assets.
  • Strong project and time management skills to ensure asset development and messaging cadence.
  • Detail-oriented, enjoy embracing new challenges and finding creative solutions.
  • Native in English language, an additional second language in Chinese, French or German is an advantage.
