Vice President, Design

The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, The Repulse Bay and other high-profile assets) is seeking to hire a Vice President, Design to lead and direct internal and external multidisciplinary design teams for new builds and renovations across HSH’s asset portfolio of ultra-luxury hotels, retail, commercial and residential properties.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee design direction, concept development and execution for all new builds and renovations globally to deliver spectacular spaces that are representative of HSH’s (including The Peninsula’s) design philosophies.
  • Provide detailed design briefs to the Design Consultants
  • Establish and update the area design programmes throughout all phases.
  • Deliver presentations to senior leadership and Board of Directors on design vision and strategy.
  • Coordinate interdependent design disciplines and consultants to resolve issues and ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Maintain internal communication relating to the coordination of design key stakeholders such as HSH Operations, Technology and Security Teams.
  • Review design deliverables, schedules and budgets submitted by the Project Managers and Design Consultants, as well as produce written documents, CAD drawings and sketches to project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the Project Management teams regarding design variations and report on cost and schedule implications.
  • Forecast design costs and scope from concept through detailed estimates and documentation.
  • Support the tendering process with architecture, interior design, engineering, FF&E and construction firms.
  • Track key metrics of design programs through monthly reporting. Identify opportunities to optimise costs and support value engineering processes as required.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor a team of design professionals.

 

General requirements

  • Degree holder or above in Architecture (ideal) or Interior Design
  • Minimum 20 years’ experience, ideally 5 years minimum relating to hospitality / hotel design sector
  • Preference will be afforded to candidates in a group leadership role (minimum 5 years, such as Group Director, Vice President or similar) 
  • Fluent English proficiency and the ability to communicate complexity to board level audience
  • Ideally, experience working in Asia with a focus on luxury setting
