Director of People and Culture (HR)
The Peninsula Tokyo, a prestigious ultra-luxury hotel located in the heart of the city near Ginza, the Marunouchi financial district, and the Imperial Palace, is seeking a human centric and strategic Director of People and Culture (HR) to support our dynamic operations. This is a critical and influential leadership role reporting directly to the hotel’s Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of people and culture, including talent acquisition, development, succession planning, retention, rewards, training, and compliance
- Serve as a strategic business advisor to senior leadership, with a strong focus on workforce planning and commercial impact
- Design and implement a locally relevant rewards matrix to position the hotel as an employer of choice
- Champion a compassionate, performance-driven culture across all levels of the organization
- Develop strategies to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and guest-focused workplace culture.
- Drive change initiatives including process transformation, technology adoption, and HR innovation
- Partner with the corporate office to deliver strategic HR projects
- Ensure compliance with Japan’s labor laws and regulatory requirements
- Maintain HR data integrity and act as a trusted coach and communicator within the leadership team
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5+ years of experience as Director of HR / People and Culture
- Proven success in leading HR within large, complex operations (300+ head count)
- Working knowledge of Japanese labor legislation
- Experience in change management and HR systems implementation
- Working knowledge of Japanese and English languages
- Strong leadership, analytical, and interpersonal skills
