People & Culture, Generalist (Benefits)

The People & Culture, Generalist (Benefits) is responsible for administering and supporting the organization's employee benefits programs while providing general HR support across the employee lifecycle. This role serves as a key resource for employees regarding health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, leave administration, and wellness initiatives, while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement, and wellness programs.
  • Manage employee enrollments, life event changes, and annual open enrollment processes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with benefits brokers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Audit benefits data and ensure accuracy in HR and payroll systems.
  • Monitor eligibility and enrollment requirements.
  • Coordinate and administer leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, parental leave, military leave, and other company leave policies.
  • Track leave requests and maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Partner with managers and employees to facilitate successful leave transitions and returns to work.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding activities.
  • Support employee relations initiatives and respond to employee questions regarding HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Participate in performance management, employee engagement, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Assist with policy development and implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits regulations.
  • Prepare reports related to union, benefits utilization, enrollment trends, and compliance requirements.
  • Support audits and required filings related to employee benefits programs.

 

 

General Requirements:

 

 

  • 3–5 years of Human Resources experience, with at least 2 years focused on benefits administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related Business field.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits and HR practices.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with benefits platforms.
  • Knowledge of leave administration and employment laws.
  • Self-starter; creative; independent yet team-oriented; socially adept; charming and people oriented.
