Director of Group Sales

Business Unit:  The Peninsula New York
Location:  New York

The Peninsula New York is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Director of Group Sales to lead the sales activity in achieving designated revenue and room night goals within the group segment.  This individual will oversee the initiatives for the group sales team including leading the Group Sales Manager and associated coordinator support.  In addition, the Director of Group Sales will be responsible for developing assigned markets and client base while financially growing each account to its maximum revenue potential.  Please note this is a selling position with personal group sales targets.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Motivate and inspire group team to exceed room revenue targets and strategic goals for the hotel by leveraging every opportunity to maximize group segment performance.
  • Oversee the development of effective and competitive Sales & Marketing Plan initiatives for the group segment with implementation of corresponding actions.
  • Assist in establishing and completing assigned quarterly and annual action plans for self and Group Sales Manager.
  • Plan and direct prospecting efforts to identify new potential accounts.
  • Nurture and secure group business through direct enquiries, prospecting, sales calls and trade show/road show participation.
  • Negotiate on behalf of the hotel to close contracts with clients and manage new/existing accounts.
  • Together with revenue management, evaluate optimal group business opportunities based on pattern and profitability.
  • Work closely with Director of Sales to secure pipeline of group-based business for the hotel.
  • Manage designated group accounts in vertical and geographic markets to meet and exceed personal room night and revenue goals.
  • Together with Group Sales Manager, prospect on new business for hotel and generate revenue from these efforts.
  • Handle all aspects of account development to include sales presentation, site inspections, entertainment and sales trips.
  • Maintain close relationship with all key decision-makers in designated markets.
  • Lead and direct Group Sales Manager on prospecting efforts, building pipelines, and securing definite contracts in order to exceed sales goals.
  • Oversee Group Sales Manager’s prospect pipeline to ensure timely qualification and follow-up.
  • Communicate effectively and help manage sales coordinators.

 

 

General Requirements:

 

  • 5-7 years of hotel group managerial sales experience within the New York City market.
  • Strong meeting planner relationships for New York City group rooms and events.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent education
  • A self-starter with a knowledge of the group sales process.
  • Excellent English verbal communication and online writing skills.
  • High level of creativity and innovative mindset.
  • Comfortable presenting and pitching to meeting planners.
  • Ability to make independent decisions relating to solicitation methods and the management of sensitive and complex issues.
  • Ability to handle fast-paced, high energy, stressful environment; ability to be flexible with work schedule including some late-nights and weekends.
  • An excellent knowledge of the current computer applications being used (Word, Power Point, Excel).
  • A good knowledge of the hotel business and the inter-workings of an on-property hotel environment.
