Assistant Director, MEP

The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, The Repulse Bay and many high-profile assets globally) is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, MEP to manage the provision of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design services and project management for all new and renovation projects for Peninsula Hotels and other HSH commercial businesses.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist AGM, MEP, VP of Design, and other team members in preparing concept and design studies for potential projects.
  • Prepare MEP Design Briefs, related programs, and consultants' scope of work for new projects, ensuring alignment with Peninsula Standards and project-specific requirements.
  • Direct consultant engineers in preparing MEP systems that balance architectural and interior design planning, cost, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage day-to-day coordination with MEP consultants and assist Design Management Team to ensure integration with architectural and interior design elements.
  • Consolidate assessments from the Group Chef Engineer and Operations regarding the performance of MEP systems in operating hotels, utilising the latest relevant technology to provide recommendations.
  • Coordinate the assembly of information on special systems (IT, ELV, AV, security, etc.) to ensure smooth integration with design, from planning to handover.
  • Ensure MEP design and special systems comply with Peninsula Standards and document any deviations for approval by the Standards Committee.
  • Ensure MEP design and special systems are fully integrated into tender documents for procurement. Clarify all submissions and deviations to ensure full compliance with HSH requirements.
  • Perform periodic inspections to ensure execution compliance with approved submissions. Document deviations, notify all relevant stakeholders, and ensure they are rectified promptly.
  • Verify testing and commissioning information of all MEP and special systems installations to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the hotel operating team during pre-opening and post-opening periods.
  • Ensure all as-built information, testing & commissioning data, operation & maintenance manuals, and system warranties are submitted and compliant with contract requirements for handover to the hotel operation team.

 

General Requirements

  • Degree holder in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years’ of engineering design experience, preferably in the hospitality/hotel design sector.
  • Self-initiative, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
